DragonCon's
Costuming Fashion Show

Our Mission:

...is to present unique costumes and accessories to avid costumers for the express purpose of educating potential buyers of the products that are available for purchase at DragonCon.

Our Goals:

  • To produce an energetic sense of mirth that invites our audience to share in the fun of cosplay.
  • To demonstrate features and benefits of beautifully crafted DragonCon Vendor products that are easily affordable to the average con goer.
  • To ensure that the Costuming Fashion Show is both entertaining and beneficial to both audience and vendor.
  • Dealers: want free advertising
    while you’re at DragonCon?

The DragonCon Costuming Track introduces an opportunity for you to promote your costume related products at an event specifically geared toward your target audience. Costume vendors and exhibitors may present one of their complete costumes to our buying audience at $0 advertising cost. Information about your entry will be presented to the audience (including vendor booth location so shoppers will know where to find you.)

The Costuming Fashion Show is scheduled for Sunday, September 2, 2012 from 2-3pm. We would be delighted if you could join us. Please click here for an entry form.  I look forward to seeing you on the runway.

    Sincerely,

    Lee Cox
    Costuming Track Director

Do I have to be a dealer and/or exhibitor at DragonCon to participate?

Yes. You must be an actively registered dealer/exhibitor in good standing by July 30, 2012 to participate in this Fashion Show.

Are we allowed to do a presentation?

Sorry, no. This is a fashion show, not a costuming contest. An MC will introduce your entry and present key facts to the audience while your model demonstrates the costume. However, there is no other presentation like those performed at the Masquerade or the Ms. StarTrek Universe Pageant.

    back to faq

Do you have to be a professional costumer?

We are seeking those costumers that do costuming for resale either full or part-time, rather than hobbyists.

    back to faq

What types of clothing are accepted in the fashion show?

    Items MUST be:
  • a complete costume (accessories encouraged)
  • affordable to the average con goer
  • obtainable, by customers, either physically at DragonCon or available for purchase with shipping.
  • Items must NOT be:
  • street wear such as T-shirts, jeans or club wear
  • modern versions of historical clothing such as kilts and some fetish wear
  • easily obtainable through other brick-and-mortar retail businesses
  • If you have any period accurate or costumed versions of these items, please contact the Costuming Track to discuss.

    back to faq

What should I include in my costume description?

Your description will be read by the MC and should describe the following:
    • the designer (perhaps a brief, 3-sentence bio)
    • your company name
    • the costume name if applicable
    • features and benefits of the costume
    • your public contact information
This information must accompany your completed entry form. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to accept last minute changes. DragonCon and Costuming Track reserves the right to edit your descriptions length and/or content.

    back to faq

    What will my model need?

Your model should plan to bring their own make up, hair products, and any other personal grooming supplies. It’s also a good idea to bring safety pins and undergarments that are appropriate for the costume.

    back to faq

    Where is it?

Last year it was at the Sheraton Atlanta Grand Ballroom. (See floor plan on the Help page.) However, this year we are requesting to have it moved closer to dealer and vendor rooms. We will notify you if we are granted this request.

    back to faq

How do I get my costume to the show?

Your model will be responsible for the care and transport of your costume.

    back to faq

What time should my model arrive backstage of the ballroom?

No later than 1:00pm sharp. Model line up and instructions are presented at 1:30pm. This only gives us 30 minutes to work with all the models... so they should be dressed and ready to strut promptly.

    back to faq

    Are there any entry restrictions?

The costume and model must comply with DragonCon’s rules and guidelines (ex: no nudity) which you can find on their website at dragoncon.org/policies.php.
